| For generations, Pasadena Presbyterian Church has been
known for its outstanding music program. We believe that through singing we
amplify Gods Word as it is proclaimed in worship each week. Music at PPC
expresses our joy in God's love, enhances worship, enriches church members young and old,
and serves as an inspiring vehicle for community outreach. |

The
music ministry at Pasadena Presbyterian Church includes five choirs and
ensembles, involving over one hundred musicians from Kindergarten on up.
Participation in choirs open to any who wish to join.

KIRK CHOIR (adults),
is
directed by
Director of Music, Dr. Timothy Howard.
A
capable and committed group of singers, the Kirk Choir
serves as the church’s principal choir at Sunday morning worship
services.
Their diverse repertoire embraces the breadth of traditional
choral music, music written in our time, and a variety of music from
other cultures.
The choir is seen weekly on the church’s television broadcast
and presents several concerts each season as a part of the church’s Friends
of Music concert series.
They have also performed on the CalTech concert series, at Walt
Disney Concert Hall with Garrison Kiellor and the Los Angeles
Philharmonic Orchestra,
at a national convention of the American Guild of Organists,
and they have been heard across the U.S. on the public radio programs Pipedreams
and With Hearts and Voices. The Kirk Choir was founded in the
1940s by Howard Swan, PPC's music director from 1940 to 1960.
A compact disc recording of their
singing, New Songs of Celebration Render, is available
nationally on the Arkay label. Rehearsals are in the Kirk Choir Room
and are held on
Thursdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m. except during the summer months when our
Summer Choir schedule is in place (see below).SUMMER CHOIR
Sundays, Beginning June 21
We invite you to join other tuneful voices in the Choir Room at 9:15 a.m.
(be prompt, please!!), where we will prepare some simple music together,
and help lead English-language worship at 10:00 a.m. Whether you sing
every week through the summer or join us just once, this is a great
opportunity to sing in the choir on Sunday morning without having to make
an ongoing commitment to a weeknight rehearsal.
VAN ETTEN
HANDBELL CHOIR (youth & adults) is
directed by Tabitha Henken and is open to adults and older youth who have some
music reading experience.
The choir participates in worship monthly and in special concerts
both at PPC and in the community.
Rehearsals are held Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

New Songs of Celebration Render is a selection of
hymns and anthems which are among the favorites of the choirs and
congregation at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. The emphasis is on new
songs: texts and music composed in recent decades as well as older
material which is just now making its way into new denominational
hymnals of the past few years. The forty-voice Kirk Choir is accompanied
by the Van Etten Handbell Choir, the Modern Brass Quintet and the
church's majestic Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ in this celebration of
faith and sacred art. |
